Devotional: May 19- Advisers
Read Proverbs 15
Key Verse: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Proverbs 15:22
Who are the advisers in your life? Do you have enough of them or have you been living too independently? Good advisers are valuable because they have experience, they know God deeply, they are looking out for your best, and they can see areas where you might have a blind spot. This verse does not say: try to please everyone all of the time, rely on people and ignore the Holy Spirit, or the crowd is always right!
Many people have a lack of advisers because of: 1) pride-a fierce sense of self-reliance and always knowing what is best. 2) passivity- having a victim mentality and choosing hopelessness over placing a value on getting some help. 3) bogus oversensitivity-a false feeling that it will burden someone too much to share the situation when there are people who would be honored to be part of the solution.
Find advisers because they are a gift from the Lord. Drop the pride! Make a phone call today, open up your heart, and acquire some assistance.
