Devotional – May 14: Right Now
Read: Proverbs 10
Key Verse: “He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” Proverbs 10:5
The metaphor of a harvest runs throughout the pages of Scripture. There is a literal agricultural season when crops are ripe and abounding on a farmer’s property. A wise steward of God’s creation plans ahead and captures the fullness of the harvest opportunity. Sleeping during harvest leads to regret, poverty, wasted potential, and selfish complacency
There is also a spiritual harvest and the chance to lead people to God. Many Christians are asleep spiritually and shrink back because of fear and worldly values. Jesus wants our eyes to be open, our hearts to be full of love, and our words to be bold and humble. Kids grow up quickly, neighbors move away, skeptics can get cold and hardened: do not delay too long and miss the harvest. As you plant your seeds and then harvest the fruit, you will feel the pleasure of your heavenly Father!
